Acadia University welcomes students with special needs and will accommodate individual requests for support services insofar as these are available and can be provided.
It is crucial that students inform the university of their special needs well in advance of their first registration. Prospective students are strongly urged to visit the campus to assess the physical facilities and support services available and meet with the Director of Student Affairs to discuss special requests. Please feel free to phone 585-1418.
In recent years Acadia University has made considerable progress in improving accessibility to campus buildings for most persons with disabilities. While some facilities are not accessible, each year the university attempts to increase the number which are. Topographic factors may also pose problems for some students. The campus is situated on a long sloping hill which becomes more difficult to traverse in winter.
Acadia currently owns some of the technical aids which may be required by students with disabilities. A detailed list of these aids is available from the Director of Student Affairs.
To help integrate students with disabilities into residence life, Cutten House and War Memorial House are accessible and one room in Cutten House and two rooms in War Memorial House have been adapted to students with special needs. Residence applications should be accompanied by a letter outlining any specialized housing requirements. More information can be obtained by phoning Student Accommodations staff at (902) 585-1417 or (902) 585-1418.
Students with disabilities who need help to complete all or part of the registration process should contact the Registrar's Office.
