Kurzweil 3000
is a software program that offers a comprehensive set of tools for
language learning, study skills, and test taking in one software package. It is
highly flexible and customizable to accommodate diverse learning abilities and
requirements, from low visual impairments to severe learning disabilities to foreign
language learning.
Kurzweil 3000 allows you to access a wide range of source material, from scanned
documents to Web pages. In addition, you can work with virtually any image or text
document in Kurzweil 3000, including Microsoft Word and Adobe PDF.
At Acadia, Kurzweil is available as a network program.
To be set up as a new user for networked Kurzweil, contact the
Acadia Student Resource Centre at
counselling@acadiau.ca
or 585-1246.
After you have been set up as a new user:
- click on the Start button on your computer, go to Optional Software (on the network),
- find the MISC folder, and
- then the program icon of Kurzweil 3000, version 10.

- Double click to install on your computer.
When you open the program after following the above steps, you will see a dialogue box, which
gives you 3 choices:
- Kurzweil 3000 Learn Station 10.0
- Kurzweil 3000 B/W Professional 10.0
- Kurzweil 3000 Color Professional 10.0
Only 2 of these choices are available to you, the 1st and the 3rd. Select the 1st choice
unless you are connected to a Kurzweil recognized scanner and will be scanning documents.
